A year ago I was buying yet another capsule machine. This is how I ended up drawing on my coffee every morning.
It's 2025 and I've just bought a capsule machine. Again. Super modern, with a dozen flavours to choose from. And I'm still not satisfied.

I hear about specialty coffee. One James Hoffmann video turns into twenty. What a beautiful world I'd been missing. Time to brew real coffee, and lesson one: coffee has to be ground fresh.

I buy The World Atlas of Coffee and read it every night before sleep. It becomes my time to relax: learning about origins and processing, and looking at photos of coffee trees and the people who grow and pick them.

My first gear: an AeroPress and a manual grinder. So simple, and yet the cup is sweet and clear.

Oh, there's 7G near my house in Gaia. That's where I fall in love with Ethiopian coffee.

Now I need one recipe that makes two cups, so I get the Clever Dripper. Filter is easy to start with: my old kettle does the job. No fancy V60 setup needed.

I still have 200 capsules left for my George Clooney–marketed machine. So while I drink my way through bitter, burnt, expensive capsule coffee, I start learning about espresso.
That's when YouTube shows me Lance Hedrick. Wow, this guy is really into coffee.
Hold on. I know Lance. We trained jiu-jitsu together in Porto. He was the heavy guy nobody wanted to fight. Small world.
I get my Sage Bambino Plus, a DF54 grinder, and Normcore tools and accessories. Now it's time for espresso and lattes.

For Christmas I get an espresso and latte art workshop. Now I draw on my coffee. Most of the time it's a tulip. Other times it's just plain d*cks. So fun.

Coffee went from a button I pressed to something I look forward to every morning. Now I get to share that with other people. If you're still on capsules, I've been there.
